Mountain Biking Makena-haleakala
#30 of 33 mountain bike trails in Hawaii
Dusty, usually hot --- this is Maui --- and lots of kiawe thorns and very sharp lava rocks to flat your ride. Have a strategy to minimize flats and be prepared with plenty of backup tubes & air. The Plunge comes after you finally stop climbing and if you're going to flat, it'll probably be there, flying down the hill, your tire landing on a sharp-edged rock or thorn.

The Xterra World Finals course. Only open on race day, as this is almost all private land, so you gotta qualify to ride this thing. Loooong climb from Makena Beach up Haleakala, the volcano, dormant they say.
