Silver Stallion Offers Free Mobile Bike Repair to Navajo Nation

In July we interviewed Scott Nydam and Vincent Salabye about their work with in and around the Navajo Nation in New Mexico through a high school mountain bike program, and a bike shop / coffee house known as the Silver Stallion. The group has been busy this fall despite the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic that’s been especially detrimental to the local community.

In August the non-profit received a $10,000 grant from the New Mexico Economic Development Department to fund a mobile bike repair business to serve the Navajo Nation as part of Covid-19 relief efforts. Since then the repair truck has repaired more than 400 bikes on the reservation while employing several Navajo mechanics. All repair services are provided free of charge.

The Silver Stallion program is currently raising funds to continue offering the free mobile repair service in 2021, and to expand mechanic training, coaching, and local trail access. To learn more or to contribute, click here.
